The well-known films TABOR UCHODIT V NEBO (known in Germany as Das Zigeunerlager zieht in den Himmel or The Gipsy Camp Moves into the Heavens, Soviet Union 1976) and Time of the Gipsies (Italy/Croatia 1989) are certainly among the best of their genre. With deeply emotional visual language, they convey to ‘normal,’ ‘civilized’ society an idea of the lifestyle, worldview, and mentality of the Gipsy people. The Gipsy mentality, like Gipsy music, can seem very alien to ‘normal people,’ while at the same time exerting a fascinating attraction. It is a mentality that reflects both profound melancholy and joy as well as a fundamental struggle for freedom in all of life's situations.

The Gipsy Camp Moves into the Heavens enthused large audiences throughout eastern Europe in the 1970s. It remains anchored in the minds of many culturally interested individuals, above all because of is uniquely beautiful, now legendary score.
